29:Ta59,# Seedance 2.5: AI Video Generation Model (ByteDance)

*Edited by Himanshu on 7 Aug 2026 *

## What is Seedance 2.5?

Seedance 2.5 is ByteDance's next-generation AI video generator from the Seed model family. It turns a text prompt, a starting image, or a stack of multimodal references into a coherent, cinematic clip with synchronized native audio. Announced on June 23, 2026 at the Volcano Engine FORCE conference and launched publicly on July 31, 2026, it succeeds the top-ranked Seedance 2.0 line and targets longer, more controllable single-take video. On Segmind it runs as a synchronous text-to-video and image-to-video API: send a prompt, optionally add a first frame or references, and receive an MP4 with an audio track. Durations run 4 to 30 seconds at 480p, 720p, or 1080p.

## Key Features

- Native audio: dialogue, sound effects, and music generated jointly with the visuals, so motion and sound stay in sync.
- Multi-shot storytelling in one prompt using `Shot 1:` / `Shot 2:` scripting for continuous scene changes.
- Deep reference control: up to 30 reference images, 10 reference videos, and 10 reference audios, cited inline as `@Image 1`, `@Video 1`, `@Audio 1`.
- Modes: text-to-video, image-to-video (`first_frame_url`), first-to-last-frame transitions (`last_frame_url`), and reference-to-video.
- Directable camera language, seed control, and a `bitrate_mode` for higher fidelity.

## Best Use Cases

Seedance 2.5 fits ad spots, product demos, social shorts, music-driven clips, and pre-visualization. The reference stack keeps a character, product, or palette consistent across a shot. In testing, a generated landscape animated cleanly from a single first frame into a 5-second 720p clip with realistic water and mist motion and coherent ambient audio, with no visible artifacts.

## Prompt Tips and Output Quality

Write the shot as evolving motion: subject and action first, then scene, style, camera move, and audio. Name what each reference controls. When you pass a `first_frame_url`, set `aspect_ratio` to `adaptive` so output follows the source frame. Avoid real human faces in first frames, which policy blocks; use reference images for characters instead.

## FAQs

**Does Seedance 2.5 generate audio?** Yes. Enable `generate_audio` to co-produce synchronized sound in the same pass.

**How long can videos be?** On Segmind, 4 to 30 seconds per generation at 480p, 720p, or 1080p.

**Can I do image-to-video?** Yes, pass a `first_frame_url`; add `last_frame_url` for a guided transition.

**How many references can I use?** Up to 30 images, 10 videos, and 10 audios per request.
2a:Tb1f,# How to Use Seedance 2.5

Seedance 2.5 generates cinematic video with native audio from a text prompt, a starting image, or multimodal references. Pick a mode, write the shot as evolving motion, and tune a few parameters per use case.

## Choose a mode

- Text-to-video: send only `prompt`. Set `aspect_ratio` to a fixed value such as `16:9` or `9:16`.
- Image-to-video: add `first_frame_url` (public image URL) and set `aspect_ratio` to `adaptive` so output follows the source frame. Add `last_frame_url` to guide a start-to-end transition.
- Reference-to-video: attach up to 30 `reference_images`, 10 `reference_videos`, or 10 `reference_audios` and cite each in the prompt as `@Image 1`, `@Video 1`, `@Audio 1`.

## Write the prompt

Lead with subject and action, then scene, style, camera move, and audio. Describe how the shot evolves across its full length. For multiple beats in one clip, script them as `Shot 1:`, `Shot 2:`. Give explicit camera directions like a slow push-in rather than vague terms.

## Key parameters

- `duration`: 4 to 30 seconds. Use 5 for quick tests, longer for narratives.
- `resolution`: 480p for fast drafts, 720p for standard renders, 1080p for full-HD finals.
- `generate_audio`: enable for dialogue, effects, or ambient sound.
- `seed`: fix a value to iterate on the same scene; use -1 for variety.
- `bitrate_mode`: `high` for maximum fidelity, `standard` for smaller files.

## Recommended Settings (tested)

These values were validated end-to-end on Segmind:

- Image-to-video: `first_frame_url` set, `aspect_ratio: adaptive`, `duration: 5`, `resolution: 720p`, `generate_audio: true`, `seed: 42`, `bitrate_mode: standard`.
- Output: 1280x720 H.264 MP4, ~5s, with an AAC stereo audio track.

## Tips

Avoid real human faces in `first_frame_url` (blocked by policy); use `reference_images` for characters. `first_frame_url` and `reference_images` cannot be combined. Reference videos bill at the higher video-input rate.

## Getting the final frame back

Enable `return_last_frame` and the response carries the clip's final frame as a still image:

```json
{
  "status": "COMPLETED",
  "video": {
    "url": "https://.../output.mp4",
    "content_type": "video/mp4",
    "last_frame_url": "https://.../output-last-frame.png"
  },
  "output": "https://.../output.mp4"
}
```

Read the image from `video.last_frame_url`; it is absent when the flag is off. To continue a
sequence, pass that URL as the next request's `first_frame_url` so the new clip starts on the
frame the previous one ended on.

Watch the naming: `last_frame_url` is *also* a request parameter, and there it means the
opposite thing — an image you supply to steer how the clip ends. Input steers the ending;
`video.last_frame_url` in the response is the ending the model produced.
2b:T1fcc,## How Pricing Works

Seedance 2.5 pricing is based on **input type**, **resolution** (480p, 720p, or 1080p), **aspect ratio**, and **video duration** (4–30 seconds). You pay a per-second rate for the seconds of video the model processes.

There are two input modes, and they bill on different amounts of video:

- **Text / Image-to-video**: generate from a text prompt, a first-frame image, and/or reference images. You are billed for the **video you generate**. Text prompts and still images do not add a meaningful amount.
- **Video-to-video**: generate using one or more reference videos. You are billed for the video you generate **plus the reference video the model reads**. Every reference video counts, and their lengths add up. See the video-to-video section below before you budget.

### Text / Image-to-video: Per-Second Rates

Multiply by your clip duration to get the total cost. These rates are per second of **generated output**.

| Resolution | 16:9 | 4:3 | 1:1 | 3:4 | 9:16 | 21:9 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 480p | $0.1065/s | $0.1046/s | $0.1018/s | $0.1046/s | $0.1065/s | $0.1065/s |
| 720p | $0.2389/s | $0.2404/s | $0.2389/s | $0.2404/s | $0.2389/s | $0.2401/s |
| 1080p | $0.5876/s | $0.5913/s | $0.5876/s | $0.5913/s | $0.5876/s | $0.5904/s |

### Video-to-video: Per-Second Rates

> **Important: video-to-video bills your reference videos as well as your output.**
> The rate below is lower per second than text / image-to-video, but it applies to **more seconds**: your output *plus* your reference footage. Budget with:
>
> ```
> billed seconds = output duration + max(total reference duration, ⅔ × output duration, rounded up)
> cost ≈ rate × billed seconds
> ```
>
> - **Total reference duration** is the combined length of **all** reference videos you attach. Two references of 15s and 5s count as 20 seconds.
> - **There is a minimum.** The reference portion is never billed at less than two-thirds of your output duration, rounded up to the next whole second (e.g. 3s for a 4s output, 7s for a 10s output, 20s for a 30s output). A reference shorter than that is billed at the minimum.
> - **There is no cap.** Long references are billed at their full length.

| Resolution | 16:9 | 4:3 | 1:1 | 3:4 | 9:16 | 21:9 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 480p | $0.0637/s | $0.0626/s | $0.0609/s | $0.0626/s | $0.0637/s | $0.0637/s |
| 720p | $0.1429/s | $0.1438/s | $0.1429/s | $0.1438/s | $0.1429/s | $0.1436/s |
| 1080p | $0.3519/s | $0.3541/s | $0.3519/s | $0.3541/s | $0.3519/s | $0.3536/s |

This applies at **every resolution**, including 1080p. It is how the model bills, not a property of one tier.

Reference seconds are charged at the same per-second rate as your output (your output's resolution and aspect ratio), whatever the reference's own resolution or frame rate, so a lower-quality reference is not a cheaper one. A shorter one is, down to the minimum.

**Is video-to-video cheaper than text / image-to-video?** Usually not. With a reference as long as the output, video-to-video costs about 20% more than generating the same clip from text or an image. With a short reference (at or below the minimum), the two cost about the same.

| Output (720p 16:9) | Text / image-to-video | Video-to-video, short reference (≤ minimum) | Video-to-video, reference = output length |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5s | $1.19 | $1.29 | $1.43 |
| 10s | $2.39 | $2.43 | $2.86 |
| 30s | $7.17 | $7.15 | $8.57 |

Choose video-to-video for the motion and timing it transfers, not to save money.

### Quick Cost Examples

Video-to-video rows show the total reference duration and the seconds actually billed.

| Input Type | Resolution | Aspect Ratio | Reference (total) | Output | Billed seconds | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Text / Image-to-video | 480p | 16:9 | — | 5s | 5 | $0.53 |
| Text / Image-to-video | 720p | 16:9 | — | 5s | 5 | $1.19 |
| Text / Image-to-video | 720p | 16:9 | — | 10s | 10 | $2.39 |
| Text / Image-to-video | 720p | 16:9 | — | 30s | 30 | $7.17 |
| Text / Image-to-video | 1080p | 16:9 | — | 5s | 5 | $2.94 |
| Text / Image-to-video | 1080p | 16:9 | — | 10s | 10 | $5.88 |
| Video-to-video | 480p | 16:9 | 5s | 4s | 9 | $0.57 |
| Video-to-video | 480p | 16:9 | 20s (two videos: 15s + 5s) | 4s | 24 | $1.53 |
| Video-to-video | 480p | 16:9 | 5s | 5s | 10 | $0.64 |
| Video-to-video | 480p | 16:9 | 2s | 30s | 50 (minimum applies) | $3.19 |
| Video-to-video | 720p | 16:9 | 5s | 5s | 10 | $1.43 |
| Video-to-video | 720p | 16:9 | 30s | 5s | 35 | $5.00 |
| Video-to-video | 720p | 16:9 | 10s | 10s | 20 | $2.86 |
| Video-to-video | 720p | 16:9 | 2s | 30s | 50 (minimum applies) | $7.15 |
| Video-to-video | 720p | 16:9 | 30s | 30s | 60 | $8.57 |
| Video-to-video | 1080p | 16:9 | 5s | 5s | 10 | $3.52 |

### Credit Holds vs. Your Final Charge

If you watch your balance during a generation, you may see a larger amount deducted than the clip ends up costing. That is expected:

1. **On request**: Segmind places a temporary hold on credits, sized from this model's recent average cost. This is an estimate, not the price of your clip.
2. **On completion**: the hold is settled at the actual cost of your request, and the difference is returned to your balance right away.

So the number to reconcile against the tables above is your balance **after** the request settles, not the momentary dip while it runs.

**Failed generations are not billed.** If a request returns an error, the hold is rolled back in full and you are charged nothing.

### Important Notes

- **Audio is free**: enabling audio generation does not affect pricing; there is no audio term in the rate matrix.
- **Video-to-video bills output + reference seconds**: the single most common source of a surprising bill. A 4s clip driven by 20s of reference video is billed as 24 seconds, not 4.
- **Multiple reference videos add up**: each extra reference adds its full length to the bill (above the minimum).
- **Output length scales linearly**: doubling your output duration doubles that part of the cost, and raises the reference minimum with it.
- **Resolution is the main cost lever**: 480p → 720p is roughly 2.2× per second, and 720p → 1080p is roughly 2.5×.
- **Aspect ratio is not a meaningful cost lever**: every ratio at a given resolution prices within about 1% of the others. Choose the ratio your platform needs, not the cheapest one.
- **Adaptive aspect ratio** follows your first frame and is billed at the resolved output ratio (a 16:9 first frame bills at the 16:9 rate).
- **Rates are close estimates**: the final charge is computed from the exact amount of video processed and can differ from these figures by 1–2%.

### Cost Optimization Tips

- **Trim your references to the part you need**: reference seconds are billed, so cutting a 15s reference down to the 5s that matters saves 10 seconds of billing (down to the minimum of two-thirds of your output length).
- **Attach only the references you need**: every extra reference video adds its length to the bill.
- **480p for drafts, 720p for delivery, 1080p for hero shots**: iterate at 480p, render standard finals at 720p, and reserve full-HD 1080p for the clips that need it (~2.5× the 720p cost).
- **Match duration to the shot**: cost is strictly per second of video, so trim to the length you need (4–30s).
- **Choose aspect ratio by platform**: 16:9 for YouTube, 9:16 for Reels/TikTok/Shorts, 1:1 for social square. The cost difference is negligible.
- **Fix the seed to iterate**: lock a seed and refine the prompt instead of re-rolling full-length renders.

### Example Scenario

A team producing 30 clips/day at 9:16, 720p, 5 seconds (text / image-to-video) spends about **$35.84/day** ($1.1946 × 30), or roughly **$1,075/month**. Rendering the same clips at 1080p would cost about **$88.14/day** ($2.9378 × 30).

The same 30 clips/day as video-to-video with a 5-second reference each bill 10 seconds apiece, roughly **$42.87/day** at 720p ($1.429 × 30). With a 15-second reference each, they bill 20 seconds apiece, about **$85.74/day**. Trimming references to the part you need is the easiest saving.

2f:Ta59,# Seedance 2.5: AI Video Generation Model (ByteDance)

30:Tb1f,# How to Use Seedance 2.5

```json
{
  "status": "COMPLETED",
Read the image from `video.last_frame_url`; it is absent when the flag is off. To continue a
sequence, pass that URL as the next request's `first_frame_url` so the new clip starts on the
frame the previous one ended on.
Watch the naming: `last_frame_url` is *also* a request parameter, and there it means the
opposite thing — an image you supply to steer how the clip ends. Input steers the ending;
`video.last_frame_url` in the response is the ending the model produced.
31:T1fcc,## How Pricing Works
Seedance 2.5 pricing is based on **input type**, **resolution** (480p, 720p, or 1080p), **aspect ratio**, and **video duration** (4–30 seconds). You pay a per-second rate for the seconds of video the model processes.
There are two input modes, and they bill on different amounts of video:
- **Text / Image-to-video**: generate from a text prompt, a first-frame image, and/or reference images. You are billed for the **video you generate**. Text prompts and still images do not add a meaningful amount.
- **Video-to-video**: generate using one or more reference videos. You are billed for the video you generate **plus the reference video the model reads**. Every reference video counts, and their lengths add up. See the video-to-video section below before you budget.
### Text / Image-to-video: Per-Second Rates
Multiply by your clip duration to get the total cost. These rates are per second of **generated output**.
| Resolution | 16:9 | 4:3 | 1:1 | 3:4 | 9:16 | 21:9 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 480p | $0.1065/s | $0.1046/s | $0.1018/s | $0.1046/s | $0.1065/s | $0.1065/s |
| 720p | $0.2389/s | $0.2404/s | $0.2389/s | $0.2404/s | $0.2389/s | $0.2401/s |
| 1080p | $0.5876/s | $0.5913/s | $0.5876/s | $0.5913/s | $0.5876/s | $0.5904/s |
### Video-to-video: Per-Second Rates
> **Important: video-to-video bills your reference videos as well as your output.**
> The rate below is lower per second than text / image-to-video, but it applies to **more seconds**: your output *plus* your reference footage. Budget with:
>
> ```
> billed seconds = output duration + max(total reference duration, ⅔ × output duration, rounded up)
> cost ≈ rate × billed seconds
> ```
>
> - **Total reference duration** is the combined length of **all** reference videos you attach. Two references of 15s and 5s count as 20 seconds.
> - **There is a minimum.** The reference portion is never billed at less than two-thirds of your output duration, rounded up to the next whole second (e.g. 3s for a 4s output, 7s for a 10s output, 20s for a 30s output). A reference shorter than that is billed at the minimum.
> - **There is no cap.** Long references are billed at their full length.
| Resolution | 16:9 | 4:3 | 1:1 | 3:4 | 9:16 | 21:9 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 480p | $0.0637/s | $0.0626/s | $0.0609/s | $0.0626/s | $0.0637/s | $0.0637/s |
| 720p | $0.1429/s | $0.1438/s | $0.1429/s | $0.1438/s | $0.1429/s | $0.1436/s |
| 1080p | $0.3519/s | $0.3541/s | $0.3519/s | $0.3541/s | $0.3519/s | $0.3536/s |
This applies at **every resolution**, including 1080p. It is how the model bills, not a property of one tier.
Reference seconds are charged at the same per-second rate as your output (your output's resolution and aspect ratio), whatever the reference's own resolution or frame rate, so a lower-quality reference is not a cheaper one. A shorter one is, down to the minimum.
**Is video-to-video cheaper than text / image-to-video?** Usually not. With a reference as long as the output, video-to-video costs about 20% more than generating the same clip from text or an image. With a short reference (at or below the minimum), the two cost about the same.
| Output (720p 16:9) | Text / image-to-video | Video-to-video, short reference (≤ minimum) | Video-to-video, reference = output length |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5s | $1.19 | $1.29 | $1.43 |
| 10s | $2.39 | $2.43 | $2.86 |
| 30s | $7.17 | $7.15 | $8.57 |
Choose video-to-video for the motion and timing it transfers, not to save money.
### Quick Cost Examples
Video-to-video rows show the total reference duration and the seconds actually billed.
| Input Type | Resolution | Aspect Ratio | Reference (total) | Output | Billed seconds | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Text / Image-to-video | 480p | 16:9 | — | 5s | 5 | $0.53 |
| Text / Image-to-video | 720p | 16:9 | — | 5s | 5 | $1.19 |
| Text / Image-to-video | 720p | 16:9 | — | 10s | 10 | $2.39 |
| Text / Image-to-video | 720p | 16:9 | — | 30s | 30 | $7.17 |
| Text / Image-to-video | 1080p | 16:9 | — | 5s | 5 | $2.94 |
| Video-to-video | 720p | 16:9 | 5s | 5s | 10 | $1.43 |
| Video-to-video | 720p | 16:9 | 30s | 5s | 35 | $5.00 |
| Video-to-video | 720p | 16:9 | 10s | 10s | 20 | $2.86 |
| Video-to-video | 720p | 16:9 | 2s | 30s | 50 (minimum applies) | $7.15 |
| Video-to-video | 720p | 16:9 | 30s | 30s | 60 | $8.57 |
| Video-to-video | 1080p | 16:9 | 5s | 5s | 10 | $3.52 |
### Credit Holds vs. Your Final Charge
If you watch your balance during a generation, you may see a larger amount deducted than the clip ends up costing. That is expected:
1. **On request**: Segmind places a temporary hold on credits, sized from this model's recent average cost. This is an estimate, not the price of your clip.
2. **On completion**: the hold is settled at the actual cost of your request, and the difference is returned to your balance right away.
So the number to reconcile against the tables above is your balance **after** the request settles, not the momentary dip while it runs.
**Failed generations are not billed.** If a request returns an error, the hold is rolled back in full and you are charged nothing.
### Important Notes
- **Audio is free**: enabling audio generation does not affect pricing; there is no audio term in the rate matrix.
- **Video-to-video bills output + reference seconds**: the single most common source of a surprising bill. A 4s clip driven by 20s of reference video is billed as 24 seconds, not 4.
- **Multiple reference videos add up**: each extra reference adds its full length to the bill (above the minimum).
- **Output length scales linearly**: doubling your output duration doubles that part of the cost, and raises the reference minimum with it.
- **Resolution is the main cost lever**: 480p → 720p is roughly 2.2× per second, and 720p → 1080p is roughly 2.5×.
- **Aspect ratio is not a meaningful cost lever**: every ratio at a given resolution prices within about 1% of the others. Choose the ratio your platform needs, not the cheapest one.
- **Adaptive aspect ratio** follows your first frame and is billed at the resolved output ratio (a 16:9 first frame bills at the 16:9 rate).
- **Rates are close estimates**: the final charge is computed from the exact amount of video processed and can differ from these figures by 1–2%.
### Cost Optimization Tips
- **Trim your references to the part you need**: reference seconds are billed, so cutting a 15s reference down to the 5s that matters saves 10 seconds of billing (down to the minimum of two-thirds of your output length).
- **Attach only the references you need**: every extra reference video adds its length to the bill.
- **480p for drafts, 720p for delivery, 1080p for hero shots**: iterate at 480p, render standard finals at 720p, and reserve full-HD 1080p for the clips that need it (~2.5× the 720p cost).
- **Match duration to the shot**: cost is strictly per second of video, so trim to the length you need (4–30s).
- **Choose aspect ratio by platform**: 16:9 for YouTube, 9:16 for Reels/TikTok/Shorts, 1:1 for social square. The cost difference is negligible.
- **Fix the seed to iterate**: lock a seed and refine the prompt instead of re-rolling full-length renders.
### Example Scenario
A team producing 30 clips/day at 9:16, 720p, 5 seconds (text / image-to-video) spends about **$35.84/day** ($1.1946 × 30), or roughly **$1,075/month**. Rendering the same clips at 1080p would cost about **$88.14/day** ($2.9378 × 30).
The same 30 clips/day as video-to-video with a 5-second reference each bill 10 seconds apiece, roughly **$42.87/day** at 720p ($1.429 × 30). With a 15-second reference each, they bill 20 seconds apiece, about **$85.74/day**. Trimming references to the part you need is the easiest saving.
